| This multifaceted online class fulfills the California state requirement in health education for the clear credential. Course topics include: awareness of basic health needs of the school age (K-12) child and adolescent, including safety, nutrition, rest and exercise; guidelines for classroom teachers in assessing the signs and symptoms of commonly encountered injuries, illnesses, and health-related conditions in children; meeting the individual needs of health impaired children and obtaining necessary human and material resources required for successful modification of the classroom environment; more acute sensitivity to culturally diverse belief systems, poverty, and problems of accessibility as it relates to health care use in the school age population; finding community resources to meet the health/welfare needs of children and their families. Each student must complete an approved Adult/Infant/Child CPR training course. The ONLY online CPR course that is currently approved by the CCTC is available at http://www.cprtoday.com. Approved CPR certificate must be sent to the University of San Diego before the end of class. Please contact the course manager if you need additional information. NOTE: Effective immediately, health education will no longer be listed as a renewal requirement on a preliminary teaching credential issued to an individual on the basis of a teacher preparation program completed outside California. Individuals who were previously issued preliminary teaching credentials on the basis of teacher preparation programs completed outside California may disregard the health education renewal requirement if listed on their preliminary teaching credential documents. This applies to all out-of-state trained teachers, including those who qualify on the basis of Peace Corps teaching. Fulfills the Health Education requirement for the Ryan Professional Clear Credential in California. |
