The Classroom The Library

Welcome to the Doing Business In Latin America Homepage. This website was developed specifically for UCLA Extension's Fall Quarter online course "Doing Business In Latin America".

First, allow me to mention that this website will be viewed best if you are using Netscape 3.0 or higher. I am not promoting Netscape, nor demeaning other browsers. Suffice it to say, that I primarily used Netscape 4.04 in creating and developing this site. For this reason, your viewing, printing and navigating results will be superior if Netscape 3.0 or higher is used.

I have tested this site with Netscape 2.0, as well as with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.0, 4.0 and 4.40. All of these performed satisfactorily, however, the layout, margins and graphics (as well as speeds) were much better on Netscape 3.0 or Netscape's Communicator 4.04.

If you wish to download either Netscape's Communicator 4.04, or its older 3.0 version for free here is the website: Netscape Download. If your computer has 24MB of RAM or more download the Communicator 4.04 version. If not, download the 3.0 version (the 4.04 version will be too big and will run slowly).

If you desire to download the latest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer here is its download site: Explorer Download. If you have any questions regarding your compatibility or performance, you may email me at: smurfer@guate.net I will only reply to currently enrolled UCLA students.

Structure of this website:

The site consists of three levels: (1) The Homepage (you are here now), (2) The Classroom, and (3) The Library. The Homepage will serve as your door to The Classroom and The Library.

The Classroom contains the course outline, a class schedule, the grading scheme, description of assignments, outlines, general course information, online tips, and a bio of the instructor. During the first week of the course, each student will be required to email a copy of his or her bio to me so that it may be added to the website.

The Library serves as a depository of information which you will need for your assignments, as well as serving as a platform for conducting extensive research.

Like any genuine library, it stores more information than what you will need for this course. To help organize this information, The Library is divided into four (4) main sections: Mexico and Central America, The Caribbean, South America, and International Treaties.

Each of the three geographic sections of The Library is further divided into subsections by the respective countries of Mexico and Central America, The Caribbean, and South America.

Lastly, each country in The Library has up to twenty divisions containing information in areas such as history, geography, government, legal framework, international treaties, intellectual property, and economic information.
